Salvage Review

The Crook brothers’ film Salvage won the ‘offical selection’ award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and has since been released to the public via Echo Bridge Home Entertainment. Some indie horror films are known to leave a bad taste in my mouth; it seems like only a handful of talented directors can make magic out of nothing.

The Crook brothers’ worked hard to make a dark twisted film which distorts reality and has a genuinely creepy atmosphere. Though some of the dialog is a bit suspect and conversations seem to have a somewhat forced delivery, the plot moves along and much can be forgiven. The story itself is intriguing and keeps you thinking.

Chris Ferry violently shines as serial killer Duke Desmond, apparently shot dead during a lengthy run from the police, although he continuously shows up in Lauren Currie Lewis’ nightmares with the result always being the same — she dies. Struggling to understand how or why and trying to get her boyfriend to believe her, she is forced to face the truth on her own.

Salvage is a solid indie horror film with its good points and its bad. However, what it lacks in its production value, it makes up for in story. If you’re a fan of subtle horror, this is one for you.

This films gets the Rottin’ Roger Demarco seal of approval with 2 bad dreams out of 5.
