I’m Way Too High for That

Contracted Review

Every once in a while a movie comes out by a director I’ve never heard of or seen anything by that I still decide to give a chance. I am certainly glad I gave Eric England a chance because Contracted is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time!

I had viewed the trailer for this film a few times and I knew the premise rather well, but I had no real idea of how the entire thing would play out. Would it just be another horror flick with a shocking trailer that fails to hit the mark? This is definitely not the case.

The acting is phenomenal and Najarra Townsend does an amazing job as the young, scared, and lonely Samantha. I really hope she sticks to doing some more movies in the genre because we can surely use an actress like her. It is also very nice to see Caroline Williams starring as Samantha’s mother (Many know Williams from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Hatchet III.) The supporting cast is very good and does a great job at really making the viewer know who to like and who to hate. I absolutely despise Katie Stegeman as Nikki, Samantha’s ex, which means she played her part extremely well!

Watching Samantha decay over the film’s three-day period is really a treat for horror fans, as the makeup and effects team did an amazing job. There is some continuity issues that I noticed, but it doesn’t take away much and the decline in Sam’s health is executed in a way that is sure to disgust even the most diehard genre fans.

I had no idea how England would end his film and when it finally came, I loved every second of it. The entire film is made way better than I expected and I recommend it to any and all horror fanatics. I give Contracted 4.5 maggots out of 5.

I saw this movie this evening and I thought it was great. The makeup was really done well, as you said. I also liked it that it wasn’t really explained what was going on with Samantha. That actress who was acting Samantha’s mom had a really familiar face, but I couldn’t recall in wich other movie(s) I saw her. ( So, nice that you mentioned that in your review ). There were a few things in this story that I found a bit unlogical, but not so that it was disturbing me.
