We’re Not Gonna Hurt You

Remission Review

Remission

I know I preach an awful lot about indie films and how important it is to pay attention to them. With so many directors churning out amazing work, I feel the need to spread the word as best as I can because if I don’t, you just might miss out on something amazing.

Tyler Schmid, Joshua Weixelman, and Lisa Kovanda are a trio that needs your attention… right now. Their new film, Remission, is incredibly well-made, intense, and frightening. With most zombie films we either get a standard “beginning of an outbreak” story or an “at war with the dead” story. Few and far between are the films that truly focus on the characters, giving them the spotlight and the time to be fleshed out.

Remission succeeds in making your opinions of characters alter from beginning to end (similar to The Mist), which hasn’t been done correctly in my personal opinion since Romero’s Day of the Dead. The acting is superb, especially Eric Moyer’s performance as Joseph Barnaby whom truly is a stand out character.

This film has enough heart, enough hate, and honestly looks incredible. Already making the rounds and winning official selection at the Prairie Lights Film Festival, it is going to be a hard film to ignore. For those of you who don’t go to festivals or pay attention to the indie scene, this might be the movie to change your mind.

I personally give this film 3 corpses out of 5.
