Vital Signs… Present

Seed Review

Seed

Director Uwe Boll has really come under fire for making horrible films like House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark. The horror community either loves him or hates him and I suppose I fall somewhere in between. His 2009 film Rampage was really my eye opener to his potential and was the reason I sat down to give his 2007 film Seed a chance.

Yet another film with the underrated Michael Paré as Detective Matt Bishop who is hell-bent on making vicious serial killer, Max Seed (Will Sanderson), face the music for all of his violent crimes. A botched execution and a premature burial leave Seed in a coffin, six feet under the ground and everyone involved in putting him there’s mind at ease. While everyone continues life as normal, claiming that Seed was put to rest by his trip to Old Sparky, he tears his way out of his coffin and begins going after everyone who put him under.

This movie has some pretty terrific moments strewn about it’s 90 minute run time. Unfortunately, it has some pretty crappy CGI used for some of the death scenes. One scene in particular with Seed torturing a woman tied to a chair would have been the greatest thing I had ever witnessed… had practical effects been used. The scene still has some power, but it’s hard to get past the CGI.

If you are a Uwe Boll hater, this one might change your opinion. I enjoyed it quite a bit even with its flaws. With a sequel in the works, we very well may be getting a low-budget franchise villain worth writing about and hey, I’m ok with that.

I give this film 2.5 wet sponges out of 5.
