Abominable Review

Abominable

I tend to get a kick out of those SyFy (Sci Fi) Channel original films, regardless of how big of a schlock-fest they end up being. I grew up on Creature Feature and Monstervision, so I have a big soft spot for cornball cinema. Ryan Schifrin’s 2006 film, Abominable, is a prime example of expecting nothing and getting a decent surprise.

The cast is a horror fan’s dream for sure, starring Matt McCoy, Jeffrey Combs, Paul Gleason, Lance Henriksen, and scream-queen, Tiffany Shepis. The creature effects are actually very well done for a low-budget horror film. Bigfoot is menacing, as he stalks the cast one at a time, giving this film a definite slasher feel, while also managing to stay intense and fun.

When Preston returns to his home in the mountains, after an accident leaves him paralyzed from the waist down, he just can’t help but feeling like something is out in the woods…watching. Once phone lines go down and the girls next door start disappearing, Preston discovers his fears are all too real. Bigfoot shows up and starts eating faces… and it’s as gory as it sounds.

With all the cameos from horror heavyweights, you can’t just help but dig this film. If Jeffery Combs being a bigfoot enthusiast doesn’t put a smile on your face, you’re probably not as big of a horror fan as you think you are. This movie is pure B-movie fun with gallons of blood, nudity, and bigfoot eating people… oh and Lance Henriksen as a hunter who “likes to kill shit.”

I give this movie 2.5 emails out of 5.
