God is Missing

Dropping Evil Review

Sometimes when I watch a really low-budget movie, I have to repeat to myself “I love my job…I love my job…I love my job.” More often than not it’s being sarcastically repeated in my head. However, on certain occasions I genuinely mean it. I just have a fondness for the low-budget films and all of the hard-working people attached to them. Adam Protextor’s Dropping Evil had me laughing and cringing… mostly laughing for the whole 82 minutes. When I say laughing I don’t mean it negatively either.

I had a blast with this film. Being a fan of independent hip hop, I noticed a familiar name in the credits. “Coolzey” AKA Zachary Eli Lint is an amazing hip hop talent, as well as a solid actor. Playing Nancy, a god fearing, bible thumping, goodie two shoes invited to go on a weekend get away with some of his not so close friends. Things take a turn for the worse, when he gets slipped acid to help mellow him out.

This film is filled with trippy hallucinations, nudity, and over the top violence. Tiffany Shepis and Fred “The Hammer” Williamson make some brief cameos here and toss in a little star power from the otherwise unknown cast and crew. The acting really ranges from pretty damn good to laughable, but I think that adds to this particular film’s charm. There are some pretty hilarious scenes, as well as some pretty nasty amateur gore effects through out.

It has a nice little grindhouse feel to it that pretty much lets you know from the first frame that this film is going to be over the top and unapologetic for every little offensive thing it throws at you. I personally enjoyed this film a great deal, due to the fact that Coolzey was in it. I hope other people will enjoy it as much as I did.

If you dig those indie horror cheesefests, check this bad mammajamma out! I give this film 2 tabs of acid out of 5.
