I’m Here for Our Date, Rose

The Prowler Review

There isn’t anything more exciting for me than watching a slasher for the first time and seeing all of the amazing ways directors and writers come up with to kill off each character. Luckily, Joseph Zito’s “The Prowler” delivers in that department!

This 1981 slasher has everything a fan could ask for in a horror movie — a well-thought out story, a sweet disguise for our killer, and some awesome practical effects provided by one of the best to ever do it, Tom Savini. As a matter of fact, I’m a little confused as to why the shotgun-to-the-face scene from “Maniac” gets so much hype when Savini did a fantastic job with that same effect in this film, as well.

I thought the acting in this movie was great, which helped keep me focused even when things seemed to slow down a bit. I also enjoyed the fact that we got some pretty unique kills, even though the killer only sported two different weapons. There were multiple knife kills, but each had their own twist to them. It was also nice to get a film in this subgenre that wasn’t so predictable — just when I thought I had everything figured out, they switched it up on me!

If you love slashers as much as I do, I highly recommend checking this one out! “The Prowler” gets 4.5 pitchforks out of 5, in my book!
