The few animated films that I’ve reviewed here at Repulsive Reviews have contained at least some elements that could be considered dark and thriller-like. This time around, however, the animated film I have chosen to review is just pure old fun and is actually rather family friendly. Rick Morales’ Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom! brings the DC and LEGO universes together once again in an exciting battle between the Justice League and the newly formed Legion of Doom.
Lex Luthor is sick and tired of the Justice League and wants to rid the world of the hero team for good. He recruits some of the most menacing villains to help in his crusade against the heroes, but will it be enough to truly stop the mighty Justice League and take over Metropolis, along with the rest of the world?
I’m not sure what it is about the LEGO universe that is so appealing, but it just seems to work. I recently watched The LEGO Movie and had a great time with it. I’ve also been a huge fan of the LEGO Batman games that have come out across multiple gaming consoles, so choosing Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom! as my next review was a no-brainer.
Any fan of the DC Universe can have fun with this title. All of our favorite heroes are present — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Cyborg — along with a myriad of familiar villains, comprising the Legion of Doom — Lex Luthor, Black Manta, Cheetah, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, and Sinestro. In addition to these two powerful teams, I was also excited to see some other favorites pop up. Although it was very briefly, I loved seeing the likes of The Joker and Penguin.
The voice acting throughout was very impressive and horror fans can also rejoice because the legendary Tony Todd (Candyman) provides the voice for the evil Darkseid. Joining Todd are some very talented performers who lend their vocal cords to the Justice League cast, including Dee Bradley Baker, Troy Baker, John DiMaggio, Grey Griffin, and Mark Hamill. The wonderful cast, coupled with the impressive animation make for a very enjoyable experience.
New fans and hardcore loyalists alike can all enjoy this LEGO DC Super Heroes flick. There are nods to the classic forms of all characters, as well as some mention and elements of the New 52 DC Universe, which is also now defunct, in lieu of the new DC YOU movement. Watch it alone or watch it with the whole family, but I promise you will have a fun little time either way. Pick up your copy today from Warner Bros. Studio.
