It Was All a Hoax

Shadow People Review

Have you or anyone you know ever suffered from sleep paralysis? If so, then you know the completely helpless and terrifying feeling you can experience when it occurs. Sometimes sleep paralysis is linked to a disease called Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome or SUNDS. This phenomenon itself is horrifying and has the potential to make you drink that extra cup of coffee. Director Matthew Arnold’s film, Shadow People, explores the scientific reasoning behind this condition, as well as the folklore.

Lending the power to paralyze and take lives to mysterious figures called “Shadow People,” Matthew gives a shape to the terror and gives the viewer something to fear. This is one fantastic genre film, not relying on gore or even much violence, for that matter! Instead, using incredible acting and a sort of “mass hysteria” approach gives this film credibility above and beyond many of the other monster movies recently released.

When watching Shadow People, it will become evident that it resembles The Fourth Kind for its use of recreated events mixed with ‘real footage.’ This is an outstandingly creative film that, in my opinion, Alfred Hitchcock himself would stand up and clap for.

The whole film really rests on the shoulders of Dallas Roberts who plays radio DJ, Charlie Crowe. Struggling to keep ratings on his late night talk radio spot, he chooses to follow-up on the SUNDS disease and the shadow people whom he believes killed one of his callers.

I promise you, this is a film that deserves a look. If you’re a fan of thrillers, you can’t go wrong here.

I give this film 4 mysterious deaths out of 5.
