I Know a Head When I See One

Sorority Party Massacre Review

Sorority Party Massacre

Everyone has probably figured out by now that I’m a big fan of the slasher sub-genre. Something about them is just fun, the constant “red herrings,” over-the-top violence, humorous dialog, and plenty of nubile women showing off their ummmm… qualifications for the title of “scream queen.” Directors Chris W. Freeman and Justin Jones understand what makes these films so much fun and their film Sorority Party Massacre is campy fun from beginning to end.

Leslie Easterbrook, Kevin Sorbo, Richard Moll, and Ron Jeremy drop in and deliver some pretty fun scenes throughout the film. Obviously this film isn’t oscar-worthy, but it is a ridiculously fun ride that plays up the “whodunnit” slasher formula perfectly and has a pretty good setting for it.

A college competition pits girls from a sorority against one another for a single position and the girls begin dropping out of the race one by one, when bizarre “accidents” start happening. Small town police and a hot-headed big city detective scramble to solve the mystery before it’s too late.

While it’s not the best slasher I’ve seen recently, it certainly will entertain fans of the genre with some pretty fun dialog and some creative kills here and there. These days, I’ve learned to expect a little more from direct-to-video horror films and welcome the chance to find the next great horror directors. Chris W. Freeman and Justin Jones might just not be there yet, but Sorority Party Massacre is a step in the right direction. I’m personally looking forward to checking out more of their work and I hope some of you do, too.

I give this film 2.5 pumpkin pies out of 5.
