For the longest time, I read about how great the film, The Dead, was. I finally caved, a couple of months back, and decided to give it a watch. I was deeply saddened by my experience because I was extremely bored and never got to any point in the film where I felt it reached its hype. In fact, I disliked it so much, that I just turned it off half way through. I decided to give the Ford Brothers another chance, however, when I heard that a sequel had been made. The Dead 2 is all I had hoped for with its predecessor and so much more!
Synopsis:
In this ferocious sequel to the worldwide horror hit THE DEAD, an infectious epidemic spreads through India as an American turbine engineer learns that his pregnant girlfriend is trapped near the slums of Mumbai. Now he must battle his way across a 300-mile wasteland of the ravenous undead.
It is clear right off of the bat that Howard J. Ford and Jonathan Ford are two men that learn from their previous experiences. The Dead 2 was able to accomplish in the first five minutes what the first film could not do in 45. I’m not sure if it was the writing or Joseph Millson’s performance (or the combination of the two) that managed to reel me in, but this film had my attention immediately from the start.
The Dead 2 is not your typical zombie or virus outbreak flick. It has much more substance. There is a lot of character development and a lot of real human emotions that we get to feel through the actors. Millson’s character, Nicholas, is faced with overwhelming odds and in some of the scariest, videogame-esque escape scenes I’ve ever witnessed, is able to make it closer and closer to his girlfriend with each passing moment. He is not alone on his terrifying journey, however. As Nicholas’ unexpected partner and unlikely tour guide, Anand Krishna Goyal does an outstanding job as Javed, adding to a rather captivating on-screen partnership that you really root for.
Although the undead in this film aren’t as decayed and gruesome looking as most recent forays into the genre, they are very good-looking, nonetheless. The gore effects throughout are very impressive and done with what seemed to be 100% practical effects.
If you are a fan of the original film or love the zombie genre in general, you’re definitely going to want to watch the Ford Brothers’ The Dead 2. It is strong from start to finish and you will not be disappointed. Out today, you can purchase a copy on Blu-ray or DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

I thought the first movie was absolutely great, I definately plan on watching this 2nd!
