The Twilight Zone: Essential Episodes Review

The Twilight Zone: Essential Episodes

Horror/sci-fi and non-horror/sci-fi fans alike are all aware of the late 50’s/early 60’s anthology television show, The Twilight Zone. Any time the name is mentioned, everybody immediately knows what you’re talking about even if they’ve never seen an episode in their lives. To commemorate the show’s 55th anniversary, RLJ Entertainment and Image Entertainment have released a 2-disc DVD set of the series’ most essential episodes.

Covering many topics in the horror, fantasy, and science fiction genres, The Twilight Zone often adapted material from famous authors including Charles Beaumont, Ray Bradbury, and Richard Matheson. Everything from time travel to killer dolls, from aliens to monsters were covered in the weekly anthology series, which original aired from 1959 to 1964.

The Twilight Zone: Essential Episodes collects some of the most memorable episodes to ever air. I loved revisiting the greats like Living Doll, The Masks, and Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. I wasn’t even close to being born when the original Rod Serling series aired on CBS, but every year for as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed the The Twilight Zone marathon that the SyFy (Sci Fi) channel plays on New Years Eve. Even after many years of watching these marathons, there are plenty of episodes that I’ve missed. That’s where the beauty of owning an essential episodes set comes in. I was able to sit back and enjoy stories like Walking Distance, Time Enough at Last, and The Monsters are Due on Maple Street for the very first time.

With the likes of famous actors like Burgess Meredith and William Shatner, it is safe to say that the performances are acted very well and are very entertaining all the way through. Even the special effects are rather impressive for a television show shot over 50 years ago.

If you are love the old anthology series, The Twilight Zone, and aren’t on the market to purchase the entire series set on Blu-ray or DVD, do yourself a favor and purchase a copy of the 2-Disc set, The Twilight Zone: Essential Episodes. It is being officially released by RLJ Entertainment and Image Entertainment this Tuesday, July 1, so be sure to order your copy today!
