Awaken Review

Awaken

There are a number of things that get me interested or excited to watch a film; it could be an actor who is starring in it, the film’s director, or even just a really badass trailer. Nothing is more disappointing than when you finally watch this exciting film to find out that it isn’t exciting at all, and even worse, it just really sucks. Unfortunately, this has happened with my latest viewing, Matt Atkins’ Awaken.

Returning to consciousness on [...]

Jinn Review

Jinn

The last I can recall any mention of a djinn in a horror film is with the Wishmaster franchise, which started in 1997. The djinn of that series was an evil entity that could grant wishes, sort of a malevolent genie. Fast forward almost 20 years and Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad has brought us a completely different take on the evil beings, in his film Jinn.

After a mysterious package arrives at his door, Shawn (Dominic Rains) and his wife, [...]

Vice Review

Vice

While it may not be the first action sci-fi film about a form of artificial intelligence gaining awareness and a consciousness of its own, Brian A. Miller’s Vice is certainly a solid entry in the sub-genre.

VANish Review

VANish

One of my close friends loves to say “man cannot survive on horror alone.” Although most of the time I am a genre nut who watches everything from the bottom of the barrel to the cream of the crop, I do occasionally enjoy other genres of film. I got the chance to check out Bryan Bockbrader’s new film, VANish, recently and I have to say, this man knows his action.

The three central characters of VANish have some truly [...]

Dracula Untold Review

Dracula Untold

Ever since Roger and I started doing this whole review thing, I’ve made it a point to stay away from other review sites. Don’t get me wrong; There are some awesome sites out there with some pretty great insight on what’s going on in the horror genre — the good, the bad, and the God awful — but I don’t want other writers’ opinions to subconsciously effect mine. Although I’ve stayed away from these full-blown reviews, I still manage to [...]

Can You Keep a Secret?

Open Windows Review

Open Windows

There seems to be a neat little trend catching on in the horror scene over the last year or so. It may even be considered a new sub-genre all together. I’ve seen some refer to it as ‘tech horror,’ but I like to refer to it as cyber horror, myself. Whatever you call it, films like The Den or segments from the V/H/S/ franchise are utilizing the growing trends of social media and digital technology to make for some pretty [...]
