Maybe It’s a Spider Monkey

Big Ass Spider Review

Personally, I am a fan of the ‘so bad it’s good’ film. I’m the one person on this staff who loves most Troma films and the lowest of the low-budget films. Mike Mendez’s Big Ass Spider almost falls into this category. However, it’s not just a BAD good movie; It’s just a good movie.

The CGI is something out of a Sci-Fi original film, but this has much more class. First of all, the humor is top notch and the acting is superb. This film really had me smiling from ear to ear for the whole runtime. Gregory Gieras script is fun, light on the horror, and a far superior film to other big spider movies, *cough* Eight Legged Freaks.

Move over Sharknado, we have a new champion! The absurd killer animal movies are making a big comeback, especially straight-to-cable or home video. People love the cheese. This movie has plenty, but it’s also incredibly fun. Greg Grunberg (of Heroes fame) and Lombardo Boyar really have a blast on-screen and sort of form a ‘buddy cop’ movie bond. Plus, it’s always nice to see a tiny cameo from Troma legend, Lloyd Kaufman.

I fully recommend this movie. It’s fun from start to finish, with some great laughs and one Big Ass Spider!

This film gets the Rottin’ Roger Demarco seal of approval with 3.5 fruit cakes out of 5.
