James Balsamo’s film Catch of the Day is one of the most ridiculously campy films I have seen in a long time. I say that with the utmost respect, as well, because this movie is just too damn fun. It’s a mish-mash of a buddy cop film, a creature feature and a soft core porno! If you have seen any of James’ other films, then you pretty much know what you’re in for — topless chicks, hilarious dialog, and James Balsamo stealing the show, playing a loveable fuck up.
Familiar faces pop up from Balsamo’s other films, as well as a ton of random celebrities from Debbie Rochon to Kevin Van Hentenryck. Indie film fans cannot help but love this one; Roger Corman would be proud! I’ve said it before, but a lot of directors should admire Balsamo with his writing, directing, editing, acting, effects, and just all around guerilla filmmaking. Maybe not at it’s finest, but I’m here to tell you, it’s damn good.
Mutant fish men, nudity, random explosions, and even a very small cameo from yours truly should be enough to sway you to check this one out. Along with a ton of really badass promotional gear, you can pick it up from Acid Bath Productions’ website!
