Kung Fu Killer Review

Kung Fu Killer

Whenever I take a break from the grotesque horror flicks that I love so very much, it seems I fall back on the same types of films over and over again. Usually I’d throw on some kind of superhero flick or a film about Greek/Roman mythology, but this time around, it is another action-packed martial arts film — Teddy Chan’s Kung Fu Killer.

Hahou Mo (Donnie Yen) turns himself in to the police after accidentally killing a man during a duel. Fast forward three years, a killer is targeting martial arts masters and Hahou Mo, still imprisoned, believes he knows how to catch the man responsible. After agreeing to set him free, the police utilize Hahou Mo’s specific skill set to help track down the killer.

Kung Fu Killer is a beautiful entry in true Hong Kong cinema fashion. It is visually stunning from start to finish and full of non-stop action. The acting is incredible and the fight sequences are gorgeously choreographed by martial arts legend and the film’s main star/action director, Donnie Yen. Director Teddy Chan doesn’t let all of the action get in the way of a good story, however. The plot is well thought out and there is tons of back-story and characterization to fill in any gaps that one might expect from a film of this nature.

Not only do the action sequences look amazing throughout Kung Fu Killer, but so does everything else. The cinematography is remarkable and the style in which Teddy Chan and his team chose to shoot and edit this film is amazing. The camera cuts, the angles, the set designs, etc. all help bring a unique look to the film that fans from all over the world will appreciate.

Martial arts films have always interested me, but things have definitely taken a turn for the better over the past few years. The action is always eye-popping and the pacing is incredible. It seems that every kung fu film that comes out now is trying to top the last, which is definitely not going unnoticed. These films are among some of the most exciting and I love to see the events unfold with tons of passion and physicality.

If you are an action film fan and/or love martial arts movies as much as I do, you definitely don’t want to miss out on this one. Kung Fu Killer is available on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD today from Well Go USA Entertainment.

I give this film 4.5 Eaves Swallows out of 5.
