I ran out of shelf space for my ever-growing film collection a long time ago. The more movies I amass, the higher my stacks grow. Because of this poor choice of organization, it’s very easy for me to misplace things. I do go digging from time to time and end up seeing a release or two that catches my attention. Tonight’s attention-grabber was Paul Ragsdale and Angelica De Alba’s Streets of Vengeance.
The Plot
The San Francisco Slasher is going on a killing spree all across the city, targeting only adult film stars and prostitutes. After retired film star Mila makes a harrowing escape from one of the killer’s followers, she decides to gather as many of her fellow sex-workers as she can to exact revenge on the misogynist group known as The Sword.
My Thoughts
Streets of Vengeance is a low-budget throwback flick taking inspiration from all sorts of different genres. The first half of the film has heavy giallo and proto-slasher influences, fully equipped with POV kills, a killer donning black gloves, and a synth-heavy score. As the film rolls on, however, things steadily evolve, eventually finding its way into revenge flick territory with heavy schlock action movie elements.
The performances on display throughout the film’s 101 minute runtime are about what you would expect from an indie film of this nature. Streets of Vengeance‘s cast is made up of actual porn stars, both retired and still active, and other independent film up-and-comers. Luckily the most talented of the bunch is Delawna McKinney who plays our lead protagonist, Mila. McKinney does a great job with her role as ex-porn actress turned vigilante, helping to move the film’s more sluggish moments along a little more smoothly.
The Verdict
Streets of Vengeance isn’t my favorite indie flick out there, but it is ambitious enough to set itself apart from the rest. It would have done well to be about 20 minutes shorter, but overall, it is a fun one-time watch.
It features a lot of beautiful women and tons of nudity, [mostly] practical effects, and a sword-wielding women-hating villain… what else could you want in your cheesy cinema?
Streets of Vengeance scores itself a Repulsive rating of 2 hellbent porn stars out of 5 from yours truly. It is available now on Blu-ray from Slasher Video and Olive Films, so be sure to pick up a copy for yourself today.
